Ribbon-Cutting for Caja de Agua – Free Tickets for Oct. 24,25, and 26
On Sunday, October 19, Tulsa Botanic Garden held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly installed Caja de Agua (“Water Box”) Fountain, a gift from Tulsa’s oldest Sister City, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, commemorating 45 years of international friendship and cultural exchange.
Deputy Mayor Krystal Reyes and Arturo Álvarez Muñiz, Director of Sister Cities and International Affairs for San Luis Potosí, were among the dignitaries attending the event.
The fountain is a replica of San Luis Potosí’s historic Caja de Agua, built in the 19th century to store water from an aqueduct. Standing over 8 feet tall and 12 feet wide, the pink quarry stone structure is encircled by garden beds with plants representative of Mexico, bilingual signage, walking paths, and seating.
This project was a collaborative effort between the City of Tulsa, Tulsa Global Alliance, Tulsa Botanic Garden, and partners from both communities.
