SUMMARY:Wicked Plants: Exploring Horticultural Horrors with author Amy Stewart
DESCRIPTION:Wicked Plants: Exploring Horticultural Horrors with author Amy Stewart \nGet your tickets now! \nWe’re excited to announce that New York Times best-selling author Amy Stewart will be our guest speaker for our fourth annual literary brunch on Saturday\, September 28\, starting at 10:30 a.m. The brunch will be catered by Chef Tuck Curren. \nIn her book Wicked Plants\, Stewart showcases over 200 of Mother Nature’s most ill-mannered plants\, categorizing each as dangerous\, deadly\, destructive\, illegal\, intoxicating\, offensive or painful.  From strychnine to castor bean\, from poison sumac to monkshood\, from carnivorous plants to weeds that spontaneously combust\, Stewart introduces an unforgettable cast of characters and tells their tales with her own wicked sense of humor. \nDrawing on history\, medicine\, science\, and legend\, Stewart will share tales of “bloodcurdling” botany that will entertain\, alarm\, and enlighten even the most intrepid gardeners and nature lovers. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event. \nCost is $65 for Garden members; $75 for non-members. Event will be held inside the Garden’s J.E. and L.E. Mabee Grange. \nBuy your tickets now!  \nAbout Amy:  \nAmy Stewart is the New York Times best-selling author of ten books\, including The Drunken Botanist\, Wicked Plants\, Wicked Bugs\, and Flower Confidential. She has won a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship\, the American Horticultural Society’s Book Award\, and an International Association of Culinary Professionals Food Writing Award.  \nHer books have sold over a million copies worldwide and have been translated into 17 languages. Amy is a highly sought-after public speaker whose spirited lectures have entertained audiences at Cornell University\, Google corporate offices\, Microsoft\, as well as Royal Botanic Gardens\, Kew\, New York Botanical Garden and Dallas Museum of Art.  \nAmy has been featured in numerous television\, radio and print appearances including CBS Sunday Morning\, the PBS documentary The Botany of Desire\, National Public Radio and in the New York Times\, LA Times\, and O\, The Oprah Magazine. \nShe lives in Portland with her husband Scott Brown\, a rare book dealer. They own an independent bookstore called Eureka Books\, which is so independent that it lives in California while they live in Oregon. \nSpecial thanks to our 2019 event sponsors: Cherry Bost and Cheryl Groenendyke\, Elizabeth G. Hagans \nNOTE: Amy will also be speaking on Saturday\, September 28 at 6:30 p.m. on her book The Drunken Botanist – click here for information and tickets.
