Visitor Services – 2 positions (1 part-time, 1 part-time, seasonal) 

Reports to: Member Services Coordinator

Supervisory Responsibility: Work with volunteers

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Part-Time Position:  Not to exceed 24 hours per week, no benefits.

Position Summary: This position acts as a frontline ambassador for the Tulsa Botanic Garden, whose main focus is creating enjoyable and positive experiences for all visitors. The Visitor Services hours are from 9:30 to 5:30 p.m. – Tuesday through Sunday. 

Tulsa Botanic Garden seeks a qualified individual for an exciting, part-time position, “Visitor Services”. Applicants for this position will join a team of dedicated professionals working diligently to build a dynamic new botanic garden for Tulsa, Green Country and beyond.  Tulsa Botanic Garden is a growing, 501(c)(3) nonprofit, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma with 170 acres of land located in southeastern Osage County, 8 miles from downtown Tulsa. Primary duties of this position include taking admission fees, greeting and orienting Botanic Garden guests and processing gift shop sale transactions.  

Other duties include the following:  

  • Process all admission transactions and functions; handle cash and credit transactions with a high level of accuracy and according to established policies; reconcile cash drawer at end of day. 
  • Opening / closing of facility, including locking & securing all gates, doors, etc., adjusting HVAC controls, preparing and cleaning for visitors and volunteers.
  • Answering questions about membership, provide information, and take payments and information as needed for follow-up by development personnel. 
  • Working with volunteers, ensuring all visitors are greeted and welcomed.  Orienting visitors and encourage exploration of the Garden’s trails.  Assisting in answering questions.
  • Assisting with providing programs / tours to groups of all ages and backgrounds at the Garden.
  • Providing support to volunteer(s) working on Open Days.
  • Serving as an ambassador for the Garden at outreach events.
  • Gather feedback from visitors to share with management; work to problem solve daily issues.
  • May work in the Garden directing and assisting visitors during an event
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Excellent customer / visitor service relations, with prior work experience in this sector.
  • Understanding of Point of Sale (POS) transactions on computer system.
  • Flexibility of schedule to work shifts including weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Basic math, computer and cash handling skills required
  • Prior experience working with volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Familiarity with the outdoors and/or gardens.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Multi-tasking and organizational abilities
  • Flexibility and capability to adapt to changes in daily routine and visitor needs
  • Intermittent standing and walking required
  • Requires the ability to lift 30 pounds
